Leonardo DRS has commissioned Axon Vision for $350,000 to deliver AI-driven counter-uncrewed aircraft systems for US defense and homeland security operations.
The contract covers an initial batch of AI-enabled platforms capable of detecting, classifying, tracking, and countering drone threats. Axon Vision’s counter-UAS system features sub-second threat response and a modular design suitable for integration across manned and unmanned ground vehicles and maritime platforms.
The technology will be integrated into Leonardo’s broader sensing and mission systems lineup and evaluated in operational exercises, emphasizing counter-UAS performance, mobile force protection, and rapid deployment in varied environments.
This initiative forms part of a wider US military and industry trend of embedding artificial intelligence into drone operations. Companies like Shield AI, Anduril Industries, Northrop Grumman, and RTX have all developed AI-driven autonomy and sensing systems for ISR and counter-UAS missions.
