India’s Akashteer—a fully automated, Al-enabled Air Defence Control and Reporting System
developed by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) in collaboration with the DRDO and ISRO—serves
as the digital backbone for the Indian Army’s air defense network. Designed to manage low-level
airspace and coordinate ground-based weaponry, it acts as a centralized command nexus that
drastically minimizes response times.
Key Operational Capabilities
• Cross-Platform Integration: Akashteer is engineered to synthesize data from diverse radar
systems, sensors, and weapon platforms, seamlessly integrating multi-origin hardware—
including various Russian and Western-origin military assets—into a unified combat picture.
• Ultra-Low Latency: Operating with minimal reaction time (reported around 2-3
milliseconds), the system automates threat detection, tracking, and weapon assignment to
eliminate human-delay loops in high-stress combat environments.
• Combat Proven: The system saw vital deployment during real-world engagements such as
Operation Sindoor, where it coordinated short-range air defense units along the western
border to successfully neutralize incoming aerial threats with high precision.
• Fratricide Prevention: By maintaining a real-time, shared airspace picture across all
connected control rooms and weapon batteries, Akashteer significantly reduces the risk of
friendly fire while maximizing interception efficiency.
