NATO has awarded Turkish defense firm Aselsan a three-year framework contract to supply Identification-Friend-or-Foe interrogator systems for man-portable air defense systems. Issued through the NATO Support and Procurement Agency, the agreement covers Mode-5 capable IFF hardware designed to integrate with shoulder-fired air defense weapons. The systems aim to reduce the risk of fratricide and misidentification in congested airspace, supporting safer MANPADS operations across NATO member states while reinforcing allied air defense modernization efforts.
