KNDS has commissioned Hensoldt to provide approximately 400 million euros worth of digital optical and fire-control systems for Germany’s Boxer and Leopard armored fleets. The primary contract involves supplying 288 fully digital optronic suites for Boxer RCT 30 platforms, integrating advanced commander and gunner sights, self-protection systems, and video monitoring displays. These systems will support the new Boxer Schakal infantry fighting vehicles procured under a joint Rheinmetall–KNDS program. A separate agreement valued above 110 million euros covers 178 digital optronic packages for Leopard 2 A8 tanks, incorporating advanced thermal imaging, sensor heads, auxiliary sights, and precision rangefinding technology. Deliveries will commence in 2027, with prototype systems already supplied for Puma turret integration. The PERI RTWL HD forms the backbone of the architecture, enabling accurate target acquisition in degraded visibility environments, while the WAO HD gunner’s sight enhances resolution, field of view, and firing stability. The contracts reflect Germany’s broader armored modernization strategy emphasizing digitization and cross-platform sensor integration.
