As global air traffic is set to grow significantly in the coming decades, airspace will become increasingly congested and shared by both civil and military aircraft. This surge in traffic will generate more data and intensify the need for rapid, accurate, and secure aircraft identification—including the detection of uncooperative aircraft. Airspace managers must have instant access to a complete national air picture to effectively oversee operations.

The RSM NG/IFF system, which integrates Mode S, ADS-B, and advanced IFF capabilities, offers a solution to this challenge by optimising airspace management and improving coordination between civil and military operations. It secures the separation of airspace data and supports faster, more efficient air operations. By combining these technologies, the system delivers quicker track initiation and a higher-quality air picture, fully certified to international aviation standards and now featuring NATO Mode 5 interrogation.

Developed by Thales, drawing from over five decades of leadership in air traffic control radars—with more than 25,000 systems deployed globally—the RSM NG/IFF is cybersecured and enhanced with artificial intelligence. It also incorporates strict data segregation between Mode S and Mode 5, ensuring classified information remains accessible only to authorised users.
