L3Harris Technologies has secured a $24-million deal to supply its AN/PRC-158C NGC2 Gateway Manpack radios to the US Army’s 4th Infantry Division. This specialized variant of the Falcon IV AN/PRC-158 integrates MUOS satellite capability and operates across 30 to 2,500 MHz. The radios form part of the Next Generation Command and Control (NGC2) transport layer, aimed at establishing a seamless, secure network connecting soldiers, vehicles, aircraft, and command centers. Built on a software communications architecture, the system can switch waveforms and act as a mini-router to bridge diverse networks. NGC2 seeks to replace fragmented communication silos with an interoperable ecosystem, although a recent Army memo highlighted security concerns, including potential access to sensitive data and vulnerabilities in third-party applications. The contract also covers training and integration support ahead of Project Convergence 2026.
