Defense technology firm Anduril has acquired American Infrared Solutions (AIRS) to strengthen its infrared sensor capabilities and expand production of cooled cameras for the defense, space, and industrial sectors.
The acquisition will integrate AIRS’ cooled infrared cameras and components into Anduril’s mission systems, enhancing its ability to deliver high-sensitivity thermal imaging across air, land, sea, and space platforms.
AIRS will continue to operate independently from its New Hampshire facility, supplying cooled cameras both to Anduril programs and to external defense and commercial clients—giving Anduril direct control of a critical sensor supply chain it has long depended on.
The move broadens Anduril’s hardware foundation, aligning its AI-driven autonomy software with advanced sensor technology. It reflects a broader defense modernization trend, as militaries increasingly rely on infrared and multispectral imaging to detect, identify, and engage threats.
These technologies are key to modern systems such as the US Army’s MQ-9 Reaper and Gray Eagle drones, as well as the US Navy’s AN/AAS-44C targeting pods and counter-drone turrets like Leonardo DRS’s MX-GCS and Teledyne FLIR’s Boson+ modules.
