India is moving to strengthen national early warning capability through plans for a new 4D Active Electronically Scanned Array surveillance radar using Gallium Nitride technology. The system is expected to detect targets beyond 450 kilometers and monitor altitudes up to 40 kilometers, greatly expanding long-range airspace coverage. It will also feature X-band sensing for precise tracking of modern aerial threats such as quadcopters, loitering munitions, and drone swarms. GaN technology is expected to provide higher power efficiency, better thermal performance, and improved reliability over older radar systems. The program reflects India’s push to modernize integrated air defense and surveillance networks.
