The US government has approved a $163.4-million contract awarding Textron Systems the delivery of 65 Commando Select armored vehicles to Ukraine, reinforcing Kyiv’s mobility and force protection. Issued under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative through the Foreign Military Sales framework, the three-year, firm fixed-price contract covers vehicle fabrication, delivery, and one year of spare parts support. The Commando Select, derived from Textron’s Mobile Strike Force Vehicle, is designed for demanding combat environments and provides improved protection and maneuverability compared with traditional armored personnel carriers. The contract forms part of Washington’s sustained military assistance to Ukraine since the conflict escalated. In late 2024, the US announced nearly $6 billion in military and budgetary aid, including artillery ammunition, HIMARS rockets, anti-tank systems, air-defense interceptors, and drones. Further packages followed in 2025, including an $800-million security assistance tranche approved in December and an additional $500-million allocation in January to support air defense and F-16 operations. The Textron award underscores continued US efforts to enhance Ukraine’s battlefield resilience through a mix of lethal aid, mobility platforms, and sustainment support.
