The Dutch Ministry of Defence has launched a major modernization effort for its Boxer armored vehicles, adding anti-drone capabilities and updated digital systems to maintain operational effectiveness in evolving combat environments. The upgrade package introduces a new remote weapon station designed to detect and engage hostile drones without external support, highlighting the increasing importance of counter-UAS protection for frontline armored units. Alongside the combat upgrades, the Netherlands is replacing obsolete components to improve long-term sustainment and fleet readiness. The Boxer enhancement program complements wider Dutch air defense initiatives, including the acquisition of advanced drone-detection radars and future Skyranger mobile air defense systems aimed at strengthening protection against emerging aerial threats.
