Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited has issued an Expression of Interest aimed at upgrading turret traverse systems for India’s T-90 and T-72 tanks. The initiative focuses on integrating advanced electromagnetic assemblies to replace older hydraulic or legacy mechanisms. These upgrades are expected to significantly enhance turret rotation speed, precision, and responsiveness, improving overall combat effectiveness. Electromagnetic systems offer smoother control, enabling better integration with modern fire control systems and increasing first-shot accuracy. Additionally, they reduce acoustic and thermal signatures, contributing to improved survivability. The project is part of a broader modernization effort that includes upgrades to turret components, motors, and power systems. It also supports the shift toward “silent watch” capabilities, allowing tanks to operate critical systems without running the engine. This move aligns with India’s push for indigenous defense solutions and reduced dependence on foreign components.
