General Dynamics Electric Boat has secured a not-to-exceed $2.3-billion contract action modification from the US Navy for Virginia-class Block VI submarines. The award covers early manufacturing and procurement of long-lead components for the next-generation submarines, which are designed for anti-submarine warfare, ISR missions, and special operations support. Block VI boats will include upgraded stealth features, advanced seabed warfare capabilities, and enhanced weapons capacity.
