Naval Group has selected Saft to provide advanced lithium-ion battery technology for future Barracuda and Scorpene submarines, marking another important step in the evolution of underwater naval capabilities. Compared with traditional lead-acid batteries, the new energy systems offer significantly greater power storage, longer underwater endurance, faster charging cycles, and improved overall efficiency, enabling submarines to remain submerged for extended periods while maintaining high operational readiness. The partnership builds upon years of technical collaboration between the two companies and supports several domestic and international submarine construction programs. As navies increasingly prioritize endurance, stealth, and energy efficiency, advanced lithium-ion battery technology is becoming one of the key innovations shaping the next generation of underwater warfare platforms.
