The United Kingdom has announced plans to replace its Type 45 destroyers with six Common Combat Vessels (CCVs), introducing a new generation of warships designed to command and coordinate unmanned aerial, surface, and underwater systems. Scheduled to enter service in the early 2030s, the vessels form part of Britain’s strategy to build a hybrid fleet that combines manned platforms with autonomous technologies. The CCVs will operate alongside Type 26 and Type 31 frigates while supporting emerging maritime initiatives focused on protecting critical infrastructure, strengthening NATO operations, and countering increasing Russian activity across the North Atlantic and High North.
