Sweden has selected France’s Naval Group to build four new frigates for the Swedish Navy in a major defense-industrial agreement valued at more than 10 billion kronor per vessel. Stockholm chose the French proposal over competing offers from Britain’s Babcock and Spain’s Navantia, citing faster delivery schedules and proven air defense capabilities. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2030, with the frigates intended to strengthen Sweden’s maritime defense posture in the Baltic region. The deal marks a major export success for Naval Group following previous setbacks in Nordic naval competitions.
