HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has begun constructing the third and final next-generation Aegis destroyer, a part of South Korea’s Korean Air and Missile Defense (KAMD) system. The groundbreaking for this ship took place at Ulsan headquarters with DAPA, DTaQ, and Defense Rapid Acquisition Technology Research Institute representatives present. Delivery to the Republic of Korea Navy is planned for late 2027. These destroyers will introduce significant upgrades over the Sejong the Great-class, such as enhanced missile interception and improved anti-submarine warfare (ASW), strengthening South Korea’s maritime defense.
