INS Nistar, India’s first indigenously built Diving Support Vessel (DSV), has been commissioned into the Eastern Naval Command. Designed by Hindustan Shipyard Limited, the vessel boosts India’s deep-sea rescue and underwater warfare capabilities. It supports saturation diving, submarine salvage, and crew rescue up to 300 meters deep using advanced equipment including ROVs, diving chambers, and a self-propelled hyperbaric lifeboat. With this addition, India joins a small group of nations capable of advanced submarine rescue, significantly enhancing its maritime self-reliance and undersea operational readiness.
