France’s Naval Group has proposed a next-generation Scorpene Evolved submarine to India, centered on lithium-ion battery technology. The change promises longer submerged operations, faster charging, and lower acoustic signature compared with current diesel-electric designs. A permanent magnet propulsion motor would further improve efficiency and stealth. A notable option is a hull plug with vertical launch capability for BrahMos-NG cruise missiles, which would significantly enhance strike power. By using the current Mazagon Dock ecosystem, the proposal supports industrial continuity and higher local content while offering India a faster capability upgrade path.
