The US Coast Guard plans to develop a high-power microwave capability for small interception craft to counter smuggling vessels, jet skis, and unmanned surface threats. Working with Lockheed Martin, the program seeks to create a contactless stopping system that disables onboard electronics using concentrated electromagnetic pulses. Existing HPM systems are often too large for smaller boats, so the effort focuses on reducing size and power requirements while improving effectiveness against compact targets. The initiative reflects growing interest in non-kinetic maritime interdiction technologies for border security and anti-trafficking missions.
