American lawmakers are pushing for greater investment in mobile directed energy technologies, leading to the development of a containerized HELIOS laser weapon concept for the US Navy. The modular architecture would enable rapid deployment across numerous ship classes, significantly increasing operational flexibility. Equipped to counter threats such as drones, missile attacks, and hostile small boats, the laser system could serve as an additional layer within naval defense networks. Beyond maritime use, the containerized design also offers potential for fixed-site installations and expeditionary operations, broadening the military utility of directed energy weapons.
