Navantia has begun evaluating its air-independent propulsion technology for Spain’s third S-80-class submarine, conducting tests at its Cartagena shipyard before integration into the vessel. The system generates hydrogen from liquid oxygen and bioethanol to power fuel cells, enabling longer submerged operations and enhancing the endurance of Spain’s next-generation submarine fleet.
