Indonesia’s PT PAL and France’s Naval Group have commenced construction of the first two Evolved Scorpène submarines, marking a significant milestone in the country’s naval modernization program. Built under a technology transfer agreement, the project strengthens Indonesia’s domestic submarine manufacturing capability through advanced workforce training and local production. Featuring lithium-ion batteries, advanced combat systems, heavyweight torpedoes, and anti-ship missile capabilities, the submarines are expected to enhance Indonesia’s long-range maritime operations while supporting thousands of skilled jobs before deliveries begin in 2032.
