RTX’s Raytheon has successfully completed another critical phase in the development of its Next Generation Short Range Interceptor (NGSRI), the missile selected to eventually succeed the widely used Stinger air defense system. During the latest evaluation campaign, several interceptor missiles successfully identified, pursued, and neutralized representative airborne targets, confirming the effectiveness of the weapon’s integrated seeker, flight control software, target acquisition logic, and precision engagement capabilities. The new interceptor integrates an upgraded portable launch unit with a high-resolution imaging seeker, advanced onboard processing architecture, and a powerful solid-fuel propulsion system developed by Lockheed Martin. Engineered to defeat modern aerial threats—including unmanned aircraft, loitering munitions, cruise missiles, and rotary-wing platforms—the missile provides improved engagement accuracy, faster reaction time, stronger resistance to electronic interference, and greater operational flexibility. The successful testing milestone demonstrates continued progress toward delivering a highly mobile, next-generation air defense solution capable of protecting frontline forces in increasingly contested combat environments.
