General Dynamics NASSCO has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with South Korea’s DSEC and Samsung Heavy Industries to enhance collaboration on ship design, automation, and related manufacturing technologies for US programs. The partnership positions the companies to jointly pursue major naval, commercial, and government shipbuilding opportunities, including the US Navy’s Next Generation Logistics Ship. NASSCO highlighted that the agreement expands longstanding cooperation between US and South Korean shipbuilding industries, combining American naval production experience with South Korea’s sophisticated design and manufacturing capabilities. Based in California, NASSCO has delivered around 150 ships since the 1950s and is currently constructing the US Navy’s John Lewis-class fleet oilers while supporting design efforts for replacements for the Emory Land-class submarine tenders. Many of its recent commercial vessels have been designed with Korean partners. DSEC has supported US shipbuilding programs for over 30 years, providing design services, procurement support, quality oversight, shipyard consulting, and logistics. Samsung Heavy Industries contributes global-scale expertise across LNG carriers, container ships, drill ships, and offshore floating units.
