Romania has finalized a €223-million agreement with Turkey to procure a HISAR-class corvette equipped with training and a full logistics package. The deal supports Romania’s broader modernization program to strengthen its naval forces with platforms capable of safeguarding maritime infrastructure and operating effectively in the Black Sea. Approved earlier by the Homeland Defence Supreme Council and endorsed unanimously by both parliamentary defense committees, the program ensures the corvette is delivered fully operational. The HISAR-class vessel displaces 2,300 tons, stretches 99 meters, and is built for multi-domain warfare, including anti-air, anti-surface, and anti-submarine missions. Its armaments feature a 76mm OTO Melara gun, RAM launchers, Mk 32 triple torpedo tubes, and remotely controlled weapon stations for close-in protection. Its advanced sensors—3D radar, sonar, and EW suites—support threat detection and networked operations. Turkish HISAR corvettes have proven their versatility in the Eastern Mediterranean and Aegean Sea through maritime security patrols, escort duties, and anti-submarine missions. They also participate in NATO exercises like Dynamic Manta and have been deployed to protect offshore energy sites and monitor vital shipping routes.
