Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defense has unveiled the first E-ZPT electric armoured personnel carrier built for serial production by MKE, following successful acceptance testing in Ankara. The initiative signals a move in the Turkish Army’s M113 modernization program toward quieter, cooler vehicles that enhance tactical survivability.
The E-ZPT’s all-electric drivetrain reduces both noise and heat signatures, making detection by ISR systems, airborne sensors, and handheld thermals more difficult. Lower acoustic output conceals movement in urban, forested, and valley terrain, while reduced thermal visibility during slow advances or pauses delays enemy targeting—allowing troops to dismount or maneuver safely before indirect fire or loitering munitions arrive.
MKE retained the original M113 hull but integrated modern subsystems, upgraded suspension and running gear, advanced electronics, and crew systems. This modernization-first approach prioritizes rapid field deployment, leverages existing training and maintenance routines, and reduces acquisition risk compared with a clean-sheet design.
