South Korea has taken a major step in expanding its defense export presence with the signing of a framework agreement with Peru to supply K2 Black Panther main battle tanks and K808 White Tiger armored personnel carriers. This marks what could become Seoul’s largest-ever land systems export to Latin America and the first operational use of K2 tanks in the region. The agreement outlines Peru’s plan to procure 195 total vehicles, comprising 54 K2 tanks and 141 K808 APCs. The program will be executed with Hyundai Rotem and Peru’s state-owned weapons and ammunition manufacturer. While the exact contract value has not been confirmed, South Korean outlets estimate the sale could exceed 2 trillion won ($1.3 billion). Final signing and implementation are expected next year. The cooperation resembles Poland’s earlier acquisition of K2 tanks worth $6.7 billion, underscoring the platform’s expanding international footprint. With South Korea already ranked the 10th largest arms exporter globally, it aims to climb to 4th place by 2027. This deal not only strengthens Peru’s armored capabilities but also positions South Korea as a major supplier in emerging markets seeking advanced and reliable land warfare systems.
