The Dutch Ministry of Defence has announced plans to procure additional CV90 infantry fighting vehicles as part of a broader European cooperation initiative aimed at improving cost efficiency and interoperability. The acquisition will be conducted alongside Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Norway, and Sweden, building on an existing multinational framework for the joint development, operation, and sustainment of the CV90 platform. The new vehicles will equip an additional armored infantry battalion within the Royal Netherlands Army’s 13th Light Brigade, based at the Nassau-Dietz Barracks in Budel. While procurement quantities remain undisclosed, the announcement aligns with ongoing modernization efforts that include mid-life upgrades for 122 existing Dutch CV90s under a $500-million contract with BAE Systems Hägglunds. These upgrades focus on improved protection, enhanced turret ergonomics, faster engagement cycles, and the integration of active protection systems. The modernization program is expected to conclude by 2026, reinforcing the CV90’s role as a core combat platform for Dutch and allied forces operating in demanding environments.
