Rolls-Royce will deliver 350 mtu Series 199 engines to power Boxer armored vehicles for the German Armed Forces and international customers, following orders placed by Rheinmetall and KNDS Deutschland. The eight-cylinder engines deliver between 530 and 600 kilowatts, with vehicle deliveries beginning in early 2026. The Boxer’s modular design has enabled widespread adoption across NATO and partner nations, with more than 2,000 vehicles ordered or delivered globally, all powered by mtu 8V199 engines. Rolls-Royce reports that over 4,500 Series 199 engines are now in service with allied forces. The company is expanding the engine family with higher-power 10- and 12-cylinder variants while standardizing components across the range. This approach reduces logistics complexity, simplifies maintenance, lowers lifecycle costs, and improves fleet readiness during sustained operations.
