Hanwha Defence has unveiled the first three Australian-built AS9 Huntsman self-propelled howitzers at its Geelong Armoured Vehicle Centre of Excellence, advancing Australia’s LAND 8116 artillery modernization effort. The program will deliver 30 AS9 howitzers and 15 AS10 ammunition resupply vehicles produced domestically. The newly rolled-out systems will undergo testing and live firing demonstrations while serving as training platforms for Australian Army crews. Derived from South Korea’s K9 Thunder artillery system, the Huntsman combines mobility, automation, and high firepower, supported by a powerful MTU engine and automated ammunition handling designed to reduce crew workload and exposure during combat operations.
