The US Army plans to allocate $250 million to procure 50 additional Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicles (AMPVs) to replace platforms transferred to Ukraine. Manufactured by BAE Systems, the AMPV is designed to succeed the aging M113 armored personnel carrier within Armored Brigade Combat Teams. A reduced unit cost enabled the army to increase the planned purchase from 38 to 50 vehicles. The platform will fulfill multiple operational roles including command, medical evacuation, mortar carrier, and general support variants while improving survivability against modern threats such as drones and artillery.
