Indra Group and Hanwha Aerospace have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop a new generation of self-propelled artillery systems for Spain. The collaboration is based on Hanwha’s K9 Thunder platform, with technology transfer enabling localized production and strengthening Spain’s defense manufacturing base. Indra will lead system integration, including command-and-control, battlefield management, and communication systems, while also producing vehicle hulls domestically. The program aligns with Spain’s broader artillery modernization plan, which includes over 100 tracked systems and supporting vehicles. The resulting platforms are expected to feature high automation, precision strike capability, and reduced crew requirements. This partnership highlights Europe’s growing focus on industrial sovereignty and collaborative defense development within NATO frameworks.
