Germany and the Netherlands are expanding their Boxer RCT30 fleets after ARTEC received an order for 69 additional infantry fighting vehicles. Germany will take 35 vehicles and the Netherlands 34, following their combined procurement of 222 vehicles in 2025. The RCT30 is central to Germany’s Medium Forces concept, which seeks to create fast, wheeled combat formations capable of operating between heavy armoured forces and light infantry. The vehicle uses the established Boxer platform and a 30 mm turret developed for the Puma infantry fighting vehicle, allowing it to engage targets while on the move. Germany calls the vehicle “Schakal.” Besides its main armament, it can counter drones and aircraft. The integrated MELLS anti-tank guided missile system gives the vehicle the ability to engage heavily protected targets, including main battle tanks. With capacity for six dismounted soldiers, the Schakal is expected to become a primary combat vehicle for mechanised infantry units in the Medium Forces.
