Romanian defense officials are seeking approval for a major expansion of their armored forces program, centered on the acquisition of modern main battle tanks and supporting vehicles. The initiative builds on earlier purchases and introduces provisions for industrial cooperation, aiming to establish domestic capabilities for maintenance and integration. With deliveries expected through the next decade, the program represents one of the largest defense modernization efforts in the country’s recent history. It is designed to bring Romania in line with NATO capability goals and replace its aging armored fleet, reflecting regional security concerns and the drive for greater operational readiness.
