Kosovo’s acquisition of the HUMVEE Hawkeye artillery system from AM General reflects a broader trend among smaller militaries seeking mobile, rapidly deployable fire support solutions. The Hawkeye’s lightweight soft recoil design enables it to be mounted on the HUMVEE platform without compromising mobility, allowing forces to quickly reposition after firing. Capable of engaging targets at extended ranges with high rates of fire, the system offers Kosovo a significant boost in tactical flexibility and deterrence. Beyond artillery, the contract includes a range of support vehicles, training, and sustainment packages aimed at ensuring long-term operational readiness. The Kosovo Security Force is expected to begin receiving the systems between 2026 and 2027, further professionalizing its artillery units. For AM General, the deal marks a milestone as the first confirmed export of the Hawkeye system, which has evolved through testing, simulated exercises, and real-world combat assessments in Ukraine. The agreement underscores growing international demand for cost-effective, mobile artillery capable of operating in fast-moving and contested environments.
