The Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) was developed to overcome the traditional compromise between speed and protection in military transport vehicles. Designed mainly for the United States Army and Marine Corps, it replaces part of the aging Humvee fleet with a more survivable and capable platform. Built by Oshkosh Defense, the JLTV combines lessons from Humvee and MRAP programs, offering blast protection, higher payload capacity, and advanced off-road mobility. Its TAK-4i intelligent suspension improves terrain handling and ride stability, while modular armor kits allow mission-based protection levels. Variants include troop transport, heavy weapons carrier, and anti-armor configurations. The vehicle also features a digital architecture for sensors, communications, and remote weapon stations. Despite higher cost and greater weight than older trucks, the JLTV has gained international users such as Lithuania, Romania, and North Macedonia. Its combination of mobility, protection, and adaptability has made it one of today’s leading tactical vehicles.
