Turkey has enhanced the mobility of its artillery forces by introducing the URAN 105mm howitzer, a new vehicle-mounted platform designed for rapid “shoot-and-scoot” operations. Developed by Makine ve Kimya Endüstrisi (MKE), the system builds on the BORAN howitzer but replaces traditional towed deployment with a wheeled configuration. This transition significantly improves battlefield mobility, reduces setup and withdrawal time, and minimizes vulnerability to counter-battery fire. By enabling faster repositioning after firing, URAN enhances survivability in modern combat environments where detection systems can quickly locate artillery positions.
