The US State Department has approved a potential $30.6-million Foreign Military Sale to Italy covering seven Assault Amphibious Vehicles (AAVs) and associated support equipment. The package includes three AAVC-7A1 command vehicles, four AAVR-7A1 recovery variants, camouflage systems, engineering equipment, technical documentation, and logistics support. Drawn from US Marine Corps inventory, the vehicles are expected to enhance Italy’s expeditionary and amphibious warfare capabilities while supporting NATO operational objectives. Developed by BAE Systems, the AAV remains one of the most recognizable amphibious assault platforms, capable of transporting more than 20 troops while operating on both land and water.
