The Indian Army is considering a major expansion of its self-propelled artillery fleet through the acquisition of 300 additional K-9 Vajra howitzers. The proposed procurement, valued at approximately 230 billion rupees ($2.42 billion), is expected to be reviewed by the Ministry of Defence’s Defence Procurement Board. If approved, Larsen & Toubro will likely manufacture the systems in India under its technology partnership with South Korea’s Hanwha Aerospace. Combined with existing and previously ordered platforms, the acquisition could raise India’s K-9 fleet to 500 units, significantly enhancing long-range firepower along both the Pakistan and China borders.
