Germany has placed an order for 23 Rheinmetall Bergepanzer 3 Büffel armored recovery vehicles to replenish military assets previously transferred to Ukraine. The procurement follows Berlin’s approval of defense funding aimed at restoring Bundeswehr support capabilities after donating recovery platforms to Kyiv. The new vehicles will be delivered in the advanced A2 configuration, enhancing battlefield recovery, repair, and support operations. Rheinmetall has already initiated production activities to accelerate deliveries, with the first vehicle expected in 2027 and completion scheduled by 2029. Built on the Leopard 2 chassis, the Büffel combines powerful recovery equipment, robust protection, and high mobility for frontline operations.
