Rheinmetall has secured a three-digit-million-euro contract to supply weapon systems for 72 RCH 155 Remote Controlled Howitzers ordered by the UK Army. The agreement covers elevating masses, onboard tools and associated services, with production taking place at Rheinmetall’s new gun manufacturing facility in Telford. The company plans to use British steel from Sheffield Forgemasters, supporting jobs in Telford and across the wider UK supply chain. The RCH 155 procurement forms part of Britain’s Mobile Fires Platform program, which is intended to replace the Army’s aging AS-90 self-propelled artillery systems. ARTEC, the KNDS-Rheinmetall joint venture, previously received a contract worth almost £1 billion for the howitzers, with initial deliveries scheduled for 2028. Based on the Boxer 8×8 platform, the RCH 155 features an unmanned automated turret and can be operated by a two-person crew. It can reach speeds of up to 100 km/h and fire while moving, while carrying 30 rounds and 144 modular charges.
