The Astra Mk3 missile program represents India’s effort to field a next-generation beyond-visual-range air-to-air weapon using Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet propulsion technology. Designed for long-range interception of maneuverable airborne targets, the missile combines extended engagement range with advanced electronic counter-countermeasure capability and a GaN-based AESA seeker. Upcoming airborne and live-fire trials will determine the missile’s operational readiness and could significantly enhance the Indian Air Force’s stand-off air combat capability against high-value targets such as AWACS aircraft and electronic warfare platforms.
