The UK Ministry of Defence is preparing to award Heckler & Koch a ten-year contract valued at approximately £70 million ($94 million) for the continued supply of L7A2 General Purpose Machine Guns and associated equipment. Scheduled to run from 2026 to 2036, the sole-source agreement reflects H&K’s unique position as the holder of technical documentation for the modified L7A2 configuration. The company previously conducted significant mid-life upgrades to the FN MAG-derived weapon, incorporating several safety-related enhancements. Widely used by the British Armed Forces, the 7.62mm L7A2 serves in both sustained-fire and light machine gun roles, supporting infantry units, vehicles, and helicopter platforms.
