The US Space Systems Command has awarded SpaceX contracts worth $739 million to launch missile warning and tracking satellites into low-Earth orbit for the Space Development Agency and the National Reconnaissance Office. The missions fall under the National Security Space Launch program and include multiple launch sets supporting SDA Tracking Layer satellites and fire-control demonstration spacecraft. The launches will enhance US capabilities to detect and track advanced and maneuverable missile threats from space. SDA-2 missions are scheduled to begin in late 2026, followed by SDA-3 in 2027, while classified NRO launches are planned through 2028. The effort reflects a broader US strategy to strengthen space-based defense architectures and improve resilience against emerging threats.
