Germany will deploy a Patriot air defense battery to Turkey as part of a NATO rotational mission aimed at strengthening regional missile defense capabilities. Around 150 German troops from Husum will relocate with the Patriot system from late June through September, replacing a currently deployed US unit. The Patriot system is designed to intercept ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and hostile aircraft, and its deployment follows heightened regional tensions after Iranian missile attacks linked to the conflict involving the US, Israel, and Tehran. Berlin previously stationed Patriot batteries in Turkey between 2013 and 2015 to support NATO air defense operations along the Syrian border.
