Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has expanded its defense portfolio by entering the rapidly growing loitering munition sector, introducing an autonomous strike platform designed for precision battlefield operations. The system combines characteristics of cruise missiles and unmanned combat aerial vehicles, enabling autonomous or semi-autonomous missions against a variety of targets. Equipped with onboard sensors, target recognition systems, and strike capabilities, the platform can independently identify, track, and engage threats while retaining mission-abort functionality for operational flexibility. The catapult-launched design allows rapid deployment without requiring conventional runways, making it suitable for frontline operations. BEL’s move into this domain reflects the increasing importance of loitering munitions in modern warfare, where precision engagement, surveillance integration, and network-enabled operations are becoming essential. Leveraging its expertise in defense electronics, communications, and electronic warfare systems, BEL aims to integrate its new capability into broader battlefield networks, strengthening India’s indigenous defense technology ecosystem.
