Leidos has been selected by the Pentagon to support a large-scale procurement effort involving 3,000 low-cost containerized cruise missiles designed to expand the US military’s precision strike capabilities through modular and rapidly manufacturable systems. The company’s Low-Cost Containerized Munition program focuses on producing an affordable cruise missile capable of long-range attacks while leveraging commercial-style manufacturing techniques to speed up production and reduce costs. Compared with Leidos’ earlier AGM-190A missile concept, the new system features a larger design and increased fuel capacity for extended operational reach. The missiles are intended to be deployed from containerized launch platforms, improving mobility and survivability while enabling rapid deployment across multiple operational environments. The contract supports the Pentagon’s wider Arsenal of Freedom initiative, which aims to field thousands of inexpensive cruise missiles capable of saturating adversary defenses and sustaining long-term strike operations.
