Saab has introduced the Bolide 2 missile for the RBS 70 NG short-range air defense system, featuring major improvements aimed at countering drones and small aerial threats. The upgraded missile retains the laser beam-riding guidance and original engagement envelope of 9 kilometers range and 5 kilometers altitude, while incorporating an inertial navigation unit to improve effectiveness against high-altitude reconnaissance drones. Saab stated that the Bolide 2 includes a larger warhead, denser fragmentation pattern, and enhanced proximity fuze sensors, significantly increasing lethality without increasing missile weight. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2027.
