The ShinMaywa US-2 amphibious aircraft is gaining attention as one of the most advanced seaplanes in operation, with the United States incorporating the platform into joint exercises to improve maritime logistics and search-and-rescue capabilities. Operated by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, the aircraft can take off and land in rough seas with waves reaching three meters, thanks to a specialized boundary-layer control system and exceptional STOL performance. Powered by four Rolls-Royce AE2100 engines, the aircraft offers long range, high reliability, and advanced avionics. India has explored acquiring the platform for operations from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, although procurement discussions have yet to reach completion.
