Australia Conducts Live-Fire Test of Medium-Range Ground-Based Air Defense SystemAustralia has conducted a live-fire demonstration of its developmental Medium-Range Ground-Based Air Defense system, testing how its major components operate together during a simulated engagement. The trial took place during Exercise Taipan Strike 26 at the Woomera Test Range and was led by Lockheed Martin in cooperation with the US Navy.The demonstration began with a radar developed by CEA Technologies detecting and tracking a representative airborne threat. The target information was then transmitted to an expeditionary version of the virtualized Aegis Weapon System, allowing the system’s core elements to operate as part of an integrated air-defense architecture.The test represents an important step in Australia’s effort to develop a mobile ground-based air-defense capability capable of responding to emerging aerial threats. Integrating radar sensors with a networked combat system is intended to improve detection, tracking, engagement coordination, and overall battlefield awareness.The live-fire event also provided an opportunity to evaluate the interoperability of Australian and US technologies under realistic test conditions.
